Day 4 Exploring Oban

Spent today exploring Oban, mostly on foot, in order to enjoy the incredible views of this charming port city.  With a break in the heavy rains,  we hiked up to McCaig's Tower, or what is other wise referred to as McCaig's folly, since no one is certain why the wealthy aristocrat built the structure other than to commemorate himself...kind of like Trump.  Our hike up to the Tower took us through some beautiful residential neighborhoods where we enjoyed seeing many beautiful British gardens.

Typical narrow Scottish road with no shoulders...drive slowly or else!

the only sandy beach in the area...no one is swimming, it's 50°
After a delicious lunch of cod and chips, and a visit to Oban's WW II museum, we visited the local distillery that's been in business since the 18t century.  We sampled a flute of four of their whiskies...and staggered back to our B&B!

Lupine of every color were prevalent in the private gardens

Dinner tonight was at 'EE-USK", a seafood restaurant right on the pier in oban harbor.   Ee-Usk means fish in phonetic Gaelic.  For starters we had smoked haddock chowder and fried brie, and for our main courses we had scallops in a mornay sauce and mussels cooked in white wine and garlic butter.  Everything was local and scrumptious!

Tomorrow we will be visiting three islands off the coast of Oban:  Mull, Iona, and Staffa where we hope to see puffins!
